I Was Billed for an Emergency Room Visit Even Though I Never Saw a Physician. Why?
If you went through the initial ER screening exam but left before you saw a physician, we still have an obligation to charge you for the time and resources spent on your behalf. Your ER charges, in this case, should only include the initial screening service.
Can I Receive an Itemized Bill?
Yes! Just call our Patient Accounting services at 760-339-7300.
Why Did I Get a Second Bill for “Professional Services”?
Medical specialists and physicians who perform services are not employees of the hospital. There are several legal reasons for this. Because they are not hospital employees, their own offices handle their billing procedures.
Why Can I Not Receive an Estimate for Emergency Room Costs?
The estimated cost of emergency room services sometimes discourages patients from receiving the care they need, even if they have the ability to pay. Though this may sound unreasonable if you are the one making the decision for your own emergency care, there are many other situations that make this rule necessary. For example, if an adult looking after someone else’s child hesitated before admitting the child to the hospital based on expense, this could cause serious complications and possibly endanger the child’s life.
Rest assured, if you have trouble paying your bill there are several financial assistance options available to you, including no-interest payment plans.
